What is the difference between botox and filler?
Blog
We get asked this question often and it’s very important to understand the difference between the two in order to understand which treatment is going to be best suited to your concern. So here’s a brief overview for you.
Botox
Botox is a brand-name associated with the drug botulinum toxin. It’s a neurotoxin, which works by blocking the receptors that tell a muscle to contract.
It can be used in several areas of the face to relax muscles, or stop them contracting, so they don’t create a line, crease or wrinkle on the face. They can’t be used everywhere, however, for example in certain places on the cheeks they will prevent you from smiling. However, they are fantastic for treating lines on the forehead, in the frown area and the crows feet.
Dermal filler
Dermal filler is essentially made of hyaluronic acid which is chemically modified. The reason it’s modified is so that it lasts longer within the body, pure hyaluronic acid would disperse very quickly. In fact, if you’ve ever heard of the purist form of hyaluronic acid on the market, Profhilo, you will note it only lasts about three months. Hyaluronic acid is a natural product found within all of us.
Dermal fillers are great for replacing lost volume, which happens as we age. You can see this in areas such as the temples, cheeks, jawline, and chin. When you inject filler into these areas, it can lift and improve the appearance of jowls, reduce the look of tired eyes and soften lines around the lips amongst many other benefits.
