After micro needling, your skin will be sensitive and more vulnerable as it heals. Proper aftercare is crucial to maximise results and prevent irritation or complications. Here’s a detailed aftercare guide:
Immediate Aftercare (First 24–48 Hours)
Do:
Keep your skin clean – Gently wash your face with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser. Pat dry with a clean, soft towel (no rubbing).
Use a gentle hydrating serum – Hyaluronic acid is ideal to help with hydration and healing.
Apply a mild, non-comedogenic moisturiser – Choose something fragrance-free and non-irritating (like CeraVe or La Roche-Posay).
Use SPF 30–50 – Protect your skin from sun exposure with a mineral sunscreen (zinc oxide or titanium dioxide).
* Stay hydrated – Drinking plenty of water will support your skin’s healing process.
Avoid:
No makeup – Avoid makeup for at least 24–48 hours.
No touching or picking – Avoid touching your face to prevent bacteria from entering microchannels.
No sweating – Avoid workouts, saunas, and hot showers for 24–48 hours.
No harsh skincare products – Avoid exfoliants, retinoids, acids (like AHAs/BHAs), and vitamin C for 3–5 days.
* No sun exposure – Stay out of direct sunlight to avoid hyperpigmentation and irritation.
Days 2–7: Healing Phase
Do:
Continue gentle cleansing and moisturizing – Stick to hydrating products.
Use a calming serum – Niacinamide can help reduce redness and inflammation.
* Use SPF daily – Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours when exposed to sunlight.
Avoid:
No exfoliating – Avoid scrubs and peels until your skin is fully healed (at least 7 days).
No active ingredients – Hold off on retinoids, vitamin C, and acids until redness and sensitivity are gone.
After 1 Week (Maintenance Phase)
Gradually reintroduce active ingredients (like retinoids and vitamin C) after your skin feels fully healed.
Keep using SPF daily to protect your results.
* Continue hydrating your skin to maintain the glow and support collagen production.
Signs to Watch For (Seek Help If):
Prolonged redness or swelling lasting more than 5–7 days.
Pus, yellow crusting, or oozing (signs of infection).
* Increased pain, heat, or rash.
