Aftercare for Hair Reduction
IPL Hair Reduction
Blog
Aftercare for IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) hair reduction is essential to ensure optimal results and to minimize the risk of irritation or side effects. Here's a comprehensive guide:
Immediate Aftercare (First 24–48 Hours)
- Cool the area.
- Apply a cold compress or aloe vera gel to soothe redness or warmth.
- Avoid hot showers, saunas, or heat-based skincare (e.g. hot packs, steam rooms).
Avoid Sun Exposure
- Stay out of direct sunlight.
- If you must go out, apply a broad-spectrum SPF50+ sunscreen every 2 hours.
Skip Harsh Products
- Avoid retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, vitamin C, benzoyl peroxide, and perfumed products on the treated area.
- Use gentle, fragrance-free cleansers and moisturizers.
No Touching or Scrubbing
- Don’t pick, rub, or scratch the treated area.
- Avoid exfoliating for at least 3–5 days.
Stay Cool and Dry
- Avoid sweating, exercise, and swimming (chlorinated or saltwater) for 24–48 hours.
Following Days (Up to 2 Weeks)
- Hair shedding is normal.
- Treated hairs may "shed" or fall out over 1–2 weeks. This is not new growth.
- You can gently exfoliate (after 5–7 days) to help the shedding process.
Don’t Wax, Pluck, or Thread
- You can shave if needed, but avoid removing hair from the root to preserve IPL effectiveness.
Keep Moisturised
- Apply a soothing, non-comedogenic moisturiser daily to help the skin recover.
- Continue Sun Protection
- Ongoing SPF use is crucial throughout the treatment period and for at least 4 weeks after each session.
