Life is not a box of chocolates as Forest Gump would say. I think getting older, meeting more people and having more life experiences has taught me how challenging life can be at times. Most of my regular clients will already know, I’m divorced and went through quite a low patch, it’s not something I’m afraid of sharing anymore. We are all on a journey, for some of us the journey is harder than others.
Some of the patients who come to see me are going through a tough time and many have low self-esteem and self-worth. I’m going to break it to you, because I’ve tried it myself, injectables are not going to cure your deeper issues or make you feel beautiful if you don’t love yourself. I’m happy to talk to you about your feelings, I’m certainly not a trained therapist but I’m here to listen and I know a wonderful Occupational Therapist Sarah who is fantastic at getting you back on your feet.
Aesthetics can, however, give you a boost. In fact this is quite a topical issue at the moment with the “Aesthetics Journal” discussing the use of Botox in the treatment of depression. There are several randomised control trials to support its use with treatment of the glabella (or frown) being most widely accepted as improving depressive symptoms. It turns out frowning gets you down! In addition to this, treatments can be used to smooth that bump you hate in your nose, give you back that youthful glow and allow you to hold your head up and smile on a works night out with a group of 20-something year olds.
Aesthetics treatments can be fantastic but they are not the golden solution to all our woes! So when you book your next appointment I want you to step outside yourself for a minute, pretend to be your best friend and practice being kind to yourself. You are beautiful and a very special creature who is like no other.
